READY YOUR LA NEIGHBORHOOD “RYLAN” INSTRUCTOR TRAINING

Remember – all you need to do is meet with a block, show the RYLAN video, and help them fill out shingles/workbook. That’s it!

1. Complete the RYLAN instructor training

2. Review the video one more time at home

3. Contact your 3 block captains

Email each block captain – inform them of RYLAN training for their block. Ask if they have a complete block roster. If not, they may want time to update it. Click here for the questionnaire block captains can send to neighbors. Explain training takes 2 hours, one neighbor volunteers to host at their home, indoors is best, smart TV (or you can bring your laptop), seating for expected guests, water/refreshments optional. Neighbors will be given a RYLAN workbook but they should plan to come with a pen/pencil.

Help the block captain choose boundaries (for example, 20-30 homes is ideal, or one apartment building). If the block captain can print/make a map of their block that would be helpful but not mandatory (basic street layout with homes/apartments)

Agree upon a date to host the RYLAN training for their block – weeknights at 6:30pm or Sunday afternoon work best.

Send the block captain the sample scriptwhich they customize, and then email their block. This sample script will explain what RYLAN is. They can also use this invite.

Once you agree upon a date with the block captain, let Kari Garcia know so she can order the RYLAN shingle/workbook for the entire block.

4. DAY OF RYLAN TRAINING FOR BLOCK:

Bring the shingles/workbooks, your laptop, and maps of their block.

Check the RYLAN Video link, save it on your phone, AND send it to the block captain. You can either cast the YouTube video from your phone to their TV or bring your laptop to show the video. Discuss options with the block captain on how to show the video.

Show the video, follow the prompts from the narrator, and complete the RYLAN shingle/workbook with the block.

Have a discussion after the video. Ask if there are any questions.

Remind the group to meet in 6 months to perform the block drill using RYLAN.
