“Wilshire Special” streetlight, circa 1928

Close-up of one of the many “Wilshire Special” streetlights that were prevalent along Wilshire Boulevard during the late 1920s and 1930s. The lamp post sits in front of the Van-Shire Florist open-air shop. To the left of the entrance, a young girl and woman look at the arrangements. Bilboards on either side of the shope advertise Union 76 gasoline and Southern Pacific railroad. The sign reads “Ride cool trains! $6 to San Francisco. $17 to Portland”.
