Around 1939 – when the “Wizard of Oz” was made – Judy Garland and her mother, Ethel Gumm, opened a flower shop in the Miracle Mile at 5421 Wilshire Blvd. It was later the location of Brown’s Bakery. The building was demolished in the 1980s and is now where the Staples office supplies store is located. It appears that Miss Garland’s foray into the florist business was shortlived.
