In this photograph over on the right you can see the Kiru coffee shop, which later became Du-Par’s at 5601 Wilshire. It was an off-shoot of the Kiru Steak House on Serrano and 8th and was owned by my father. For whatever reasons, he couldn’t make a go of it at this location but Du-Par’s, a known entity, certainly did.
And the photo is not circa 1952 – the Kiru Wilshire folded sometime around October of 1949 and Du-Par’s took over the location in summer of 1950. So, this photo is somewhere between 1947 and 1949.
