  1. My late Dad worked as an aspiring actor at Geller Theatre Workshop from the mid 40’s to late 49- He was in sev. Eugene O’Neill plays and worked with sev. who became quite big in the acting Industry- he loved working there & had many great memories- I came across his
Gellers Theatre Scrapbook as a young boy & his acting reviews were Quite Good! Jack Holland who was producer of sev. Geller’s Plays
back in the Day was my parents best man at their Wedding. Ironically, I worked at the Petersen Museum some years back not realizing
it was once the (Geller Theatre Workshop) A Place that was Very Special to my Dad.

    1. Did your dad know Joy Reese? She was my aunt. I just found a lot of programs for the Geller Workshop that she was in. There are no year dates… just Fairfax & Wilshire. I was a professional actress for many years… and now live several blocks away from what is now the Peterson Museum. Small world.

      1. I suspect my dad did know Joy Reese but not certain… My dad worked with Hugh O’Brian & Cyd Charisse during the mid-late 40s in stage plays at the nearby Wilshire Ebell Theatre & I believe at the Geller Theatre Workshop as well which was on the southwest corner of Wilshire & Fairfax & I worked at the Peterson Automotive Museum on the southeast corner of Wilshire & Fairfax in the mid 90s when it 1st opened for a few yrs & ‘Yes, Udana, it is a small world if you will in the scheme of things

  2. My dad who passed in December of 06 probably knew your parents Garrett… It’s interesting you mention ‘Peterson Museum’ was the former site of the ‘Geller Theatre Workshop’ … As, I worked at the Peterson Museum on Wilshire & Fairfax when it initially opened up & had no idea ‘Geller Theatre Workshop’ use to occupy this locale. ‘Kinda Trippy for me’…. ‘Thanks for sharing that’….. Michael C.

    1. I was going thru some old pictures at Geller, there are quite a few and lots of people I don’t recognize. Maybe your dad is in one of them.
      My mom died last year.

  3. I was Cinderella in “Cinderella Goes Hollywood”, Becky Thatcher in “Tom Sawyer” all directed by a woman I believe her last name was Ault. I played the daughter in “Watch on the Rhine directed by Maria Manton, Marlene Dietrich’s daughter. One other with Ault was the wicked queen in “Snow White” all in the middle ’40s.

    1. I just found programs from that era. My aunt was Joy Reese. She played in Heart of a City. Also Sage Door Philadelphia Story, Let Us Be Gay, The Lake and The Royal Family. Were you in any of those? Did you know her? The programs do not give a date.. they just say Fairfax at Wilshire.

      1. My dad was in several productions at the Geller Theatre Workshop roughly between 1945 & late 49 & at the Wilshire Ebell Theatre as well ‘Jack Holland was the producer of several Theatrical productions my dad was in- Many were Eugene O’Neil plays

  4. In the middle ’40s I was in several plays at Geller Workshop, in the “junior dept.” My last play, however, was “Watch on the Rhine” directed by Marlene Dietrich’s daughter, Maria Manton.
Several years later I spent time at the Petersen thru SEMA.

  5. I worked at the Peterson Automotive Museum when it 1st opened up on Wilshire & Orangegrove for quite sometime ‘Not realizing ‘Peterson Museum was the former Locale of ‘Geller Theatre Workshop’ a significant part of my dad’s life from mid-late 40s he often talked about along with the close by ‘Wilshire Ebell Theatre’ where he was in many theatrical productions working with Hugh O’Brian & Cyd Charisse & others who went onto cinema, stage & television ‘Kinda wild & interesting…

  6. I’m going through old photos of my parents at Geller. There are tons of old black and whites with what seems to be the whole group from that era. I was born in 1950 so I’m assuming they attended Geller between 1945 and 1950.I’d like to upload some of these pictures because some of your relatives might be in them but can’t see anyway to do that. Any ideas? Garrett

  7. My mother Lorna Darrin was at Geller in I think 50-51. It was supposed to distract her after her parents had her Mexican marriage annulled after she had ru
n off to Tijuana with her boyfriend (who thought she was 18….) She was in Anne of the Thousand Days as Anne Boleyn’s younger sister and also portrayed Mary in a Christmas pageant there (which she referred to as the worst case of miscasting ever – she had a wry sense of humor.) I think her time at Geller was probably the happiest period of her life.

  8. My LA West Hollywood Post WW11 Dad was in several productions at LA’s Wilshire Ebell Theatre & at the Geller Theatre Workshop from 1945 until Late ’49 where He worked with Hugh O’Brian & Cyd Charisse and, others who went into television & film acting & My Dad ultimately became an LA detective with many intriguing cases documented in True Detective Magazine and I worked at the Peterson Automotive Museum in its infancy with No clue of its location history. Thank you, Lorna Darrin.

    1. I bet your dad knew my grand father who was an LA cop at the same time. Ostrander was his name. I don’t think anyone uses this site anymore.

  9. My dad was at Geller in ’47 and ’48. I wish I knew some stories from him, but he didn’t talk about it with us kids. I wonder where he was living? He came out from Michigan to be an actor, by 1951 he started a career at Tail O the Cock.
